Pathology Associates, P.A. offers the highest quality of cytology services
including the ThinPrep® Pap Test. Arkansas PathologyAssociates is proud
to be the first pathology group in Arkansas to provide this technology for
gynecologic cytology. This technology improves the accuracy in interpretation
of pap smears. The ThinPrep® Pap Test technology provides the cytotechnologist
and the pathologist with a slide that is not obscured by blood, mucus, or
debris leaving a slide with a monolayer of cells. It has been proven to
be more effective in identifying high grade squamous intraepithelial lesions
of the uterine cervix. In addition, the ASCUS (atypical squamous cells of
undetermined significance) rate is less since the drying of pap slides is
eliminated due to utilization of a liquid based collection technique. Utilization
of a liquid based collection technique also provides residual sample for
additional tests to be performed. This is an FDA approved test that is more
effective in detecting premalignant lesions ofthe uterine cervix. Reflex testing can be done from the ThinPrep® Pap Test vial for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Human Papilloma Virus. See Molecular Pathology for additional information. The College of American Pathologists is promoting early detection of cancer by providing a free e-mail reminder for yearly Pap smear, mammogram, and colon cancer screening.
