  ThinPrep
Arkansas Pathology Associates is proud to be the first pathology group in Arkansas to provide this technology for gynecologic cytology. This technology improves the accuracy in interpretation of pap smears. The ThinPrep® Pap Test technology provides the cytotechnologist and the pathologist with a slide that is not obscured by blood, mucus, or debris leaving a slide with a monolayer of cells. It has been proven to be more effective in identifying high grade squamous dysplastic lesions of the uterine cervix. In addition the ASCUS (atypical squamous of undetermined significance) rate is less since the drying of pap slides is eliminated due to utilization of a liquid based collection technique. Because of the utilization of a liquid based collection technique there is residual sample available for additional tests to be performed. This is an FDA approved test that is more effective in detecting premalignant lesions in the uterine cervix.

Reflex testing can be done out of the ThinPrep® Pap Test Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Human Papilloma Virus. See Molecular Pathology for additional information.
